Letters of Appreciation

Linda grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, in a very musical family and started playing the piano at the age of four.

As a 2nd grader, Linda remembers accompanying her 2nd grade class for their Christmas program. Unusual as it might seem, she loved to practice, play by ear, compose her own melodies, and had a real passion to express her young Christian faith through the hymns and choruses of the church.

Linda recalls –“I remember when I was seven, kneeling by my bed and committing my life to the Lord. Even then, I knew I wanted to be in God’s plan”. Proverbs 3: 5-6 has been her life long verse- “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”.

Throughout high school, Linda surrounded herself with music- singing in an auditioned ensemble, playing the organ for school assemblies, playing the drums in the marching band, and playing several instruments in the orchestra. During the summer, she worked at Pinebrook Bible Conference as part of a musical team. Linda played alongside well- known musical guests and attributes her present creativity to the curious questions she would ask. What chord was that? What was that modulation? How did you do that run?’ These experiences began to confirm for Linda her desire to perform and study music as a profession.

Linda decided to major in music at Nyack College, in New York. Again, she was intrigued with classes like Composition, Theory, Form and Analysis, and Church History. The music of the Classical composers was also becoming a great influence in formulating her style in writing.

Just two weeks into her Freshman year, Linda was introduced to Dave McKechnie on a blind date. There was no doubt in Linda’s mind that Dave was “the one” for her. Five years later, they were married and started their ministry together.

Dave soon became an ordained minister. For Linda, as a Pastor’s wife, this opened numerous opportunities to share her music, whether it was directing children’s choirs, handbell choirs, playing the keyboards, leading retreats, directing the Junior League singers, or entertaining in their home. Along with being a mother to Peter and Sheri, Linda started to write handbell music and

became the president of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers. Presently she has over 50 published handbell titles and continues to write commissioned works

This combination of music was soon going to reach to a broad spectrum of musical tastes and worship traditions as well as inspire thousands of people around the world through her instrumental recordings and personal appearances.

To her great surprise, God continued to expand Linda’s ministry beyond her expectations. After raising a family and being deeply involved in her husband’s ministry. God opened new possibilities.

By now, her brother Don Marsh had become a well-known composer, arranger, and producer in Christian music. Linda’s dream to record her piano music with Don as orchestrator and producer was about to come true. Her unique idea to weave hymns, praise choruses, or Christmas carols with classical music was well received. Linda strongly believed in the importance of keeping the integrity of the hymn text as well as the integrity of the classical composers.

At the age of 49, Linda signed her first recording contract with Brentwood Music. Linda loves to say - "Never underestimate God's plan for your life...no matter how old you are!!!"

Because of her love for music, Linda has accomplished a remarkable blend of talent and spiritual giftedness, whether she plays a concert, leads worship for renewal conferences, or performs for civic groups. Her winsome interaction with the audience, her explanations relating to how the arrangements were written, and encouragement to the audience to sing along, adds a warm, personal element to the event. It is truly an unforgettable experience that heightens appreciation and love for the texts and melodies as they are performed in a new and refreshing way.

Now a Steinway Artist, Linda travels extensively, performing with orchestras and some of the finest church vocal choirs, handbell choirs, and musicians throughout the country. She was especially privileged to play a special concert in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Billy Graham.

Her music reaches far beyond the concerts. The printed music available from her albums is played for countless weddings and worship services by church musicians. The recordings are continually played on Christian radio and television and played in homes to soothe crying babies and comfort stroke victims. They have been played to calm mothers in hospital delivery rooms, played over the sound system in operating rooms during major surgery and relaxed anxious dental patients and children in day cares. The music has been choreographed for ballet dance troupes and used as soundtracks for videos and Network Television segues. Many people have attributed the healing of their body, mind and spirit to her music.

Linda’s heart for others and God-given artistic ability have allowed her to change lives with the gift of music.
